Accounting Bookkeeping Software

My dad wants to start a small business. What accounting/bookkeeping software would be appropriate?
As my dad's not overly astute in the financial management side of things, I agreed that I would help him out in that respect. I'm a year 11 Accounting student so we've covered most of small business bookkeeping. I'm just wondering which accounting method would be most appropriate (and which software). The business I only likely (at present) to consist wholly of himself (service business). I would probably be listed as an employee in these circumstances though.

k what sort of accounting software programs, offer well not only certifications, but like exams for like master level helps and stuff? Ive always been really good at learning programs...and Im just now attending college to become a accountant so Im looking for programs, that should be easy to get my hands on and become a expert at.

What is a good accounting/bookkeeping software for a small lending operation or small microfinancing operation?
I tried the basics - quickbooks, peach tree, quicken - but it doesn't specifically satisfy my needs. I operate a small lending operation. The terms of payment vary from weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. I want to streamline my cash inflow and outflow; I want to know how much available cash that I have. It is very difficult to do manual journal entries and posting to ledgers because the cash movement is very fast; if I will do it manually I will be wasting so much time. It is very hard also to age accounts and make appropriate accounts receivable analyses. In the meantime, I don't apply any generally accepted accounting principles. I just go with the wind, but I want this business to grow big in the future with the proper accounting system. Please help me...
